Turkmen-Austrian commission meets in Vienna

The Turkmen-Austrian commission held its sixth meeting in Vienna (Republic of Austria). The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of government and business circles of Turkmenistan and Austria.

The Austrian side was led by the head of Department of Foreign Economic Policy and European Integration of the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth, Bernadette Gierlinger. The delegation also included senior staff of Department of the Federal Chancellor, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, other government agencies overseeing international cooperation, Austrian companies’ advisers, experts and scholars, economists, representatives of higher education establishments.

The meeting discussed issues related to trade and trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Austria. In the unanimous opinion of the sides, the current turnover does not fully reflect the capacity of national economies of the two countries. The sides also discussed the importance of intensifying the efforts to increase the volume of bilateral trade.

The meeting participants discussed prospects of cooperation in the energy sector, including development of renewable energy sources, innovative technologies in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. There were also discussed issues related to refresher training and internships for professionals of the named branches.

The sides noted the prospects for expansion of cooperation in other important areas such as humanitarian sphere, healthcare and medical industry, standardization and demographic assessment, financial and technical spheres, processing of agricultural products.

The program of work also included bilateral meetings of members of the Turkmen delegation with representatives of Austrian companies and enterprises.
