Turkmenistan grants citizenship to stateless persons

Chairing an enlarged government meeting, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree granting citizenship of Turkmenistan to persons who permanently reside in the territory of the country without citizenship, “given the right of people to freely choose citizenship.” As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports, a total of 609 people will be granted Turkmen citizenship.

While signing the decree, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan, as a member of the United Nations, strictly fulfills its commitments and provides comprehensive support to all the individuals who received citizenship of Turkmenistan, within the framework of the Turkmen Constitution and in accordance with the UN Convention on Stateless Persons, on human rights, etc.

In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Minister of National Security Yaylym Berdiyev, Interior Minister Iskander Mulikov and Chairman of the State Migration Service Dovrangeldi Bayramov to issue within one month Turkmen passports for persons who received Turkmen citizenship and provide support to the new citizens of Turkmenistan in finding employment and accommodation.
