V International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan begins in tourist zone “Avaza”

The V International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan began at the conference hall of Recreation Center “Arzuv” (Dream) in the national tourist zone “Avaza.”  It has been organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The forum has brought together about 200 delegates representing public and private organizations from more than 20 countries, as well as well-known international financial institutions and more than 30 leading international companies. The forum participants came from Russia, USA, China, UK, UAE, Japan, Austria, Turkey, France, Belgium, India, Poland, Serbia, Greece, Estonia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, etc.

The forum is also being attended by top managers and leading specialists of the International Finance Corporation, the Islamic Development Bank, the International Development Bank of Japan, as well as chambers of commerce and industry from a number of states.

The Turkmen delegation includes government officials, heads of ministries and departments, administration of Balkan province, as well as representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

The first plenary session of the investment forum was devoted to the review of investment opportunities in Turkmenistan's economy and prospects for cooperation in this field.

The forum participants were briefed on the basic aspects of the large-scale transformational reforms implemented in various sectors of the national economy and ongoing investment projects of international and national importance.

As Turkmen specialists mentioned in their statements, eliminating Turkmenistan’s dependence on fuel and raw materials and gradual transition to the path of industrial development is the basic principle of economic development of modern Turkmenistan.
Issues related to legal protection of foreign investors and enterprises with foreign investments in Turkmenistan aroused great interest among foreign participants. As part of the forum, representatives of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings with the heads of foreign companies. They exchanged views on the opportunities, prospects and priority areas of mutually beneficial partnership.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed a welcome address to the investment forum participants. The President of Turkmenistan noted that the current forum is evidence of the fact that Turkmenistan has reached a new level of development in terms of investment activities, and it has huge potential to strengthen the interaction with the international business community.
