Turkmen carpet makers begin weaving another gigantic carpet

A carpet weaving enterprise of Serdar city began weaving a new gigantic carpet totaling 200 square meters, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat. 40 female weavers are making the gigantic carpet to commission it by the opening of a new building of the Turkmen Carpet Museum. This masterpiece will find its place in one of the museum's halls.

It should be recalled that a gigantic carpet called Altyn Asyr (Golden Age) occupying 301 square meters was included in the Guinness Book of Records in 2001. It was made by 40 female carpet weavers from the city of Baharden to mark the 10th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence. It took them 8 months to finish the job. The carpet carries a picture of traditional Turkmen ornament; the five-headed eagle, a standard of the president of Turkmenistan; and Ruhnama book.

Other gigantic Turkmen carpets include a carpet named Turkmen Kalby (Turkmen heart) (190 sq.m) made on the eve of the WWII as well as recently made Turkmenbashi carpet (266 sq.m) and President carpet (294 sq.m).
