Military parade and festive demonstration dedicated to Turkmenistan's Independence Day held in Ashgabat

Festivities dedicated to the 16th anniversary of state independence began in Turkmenistan. Following the tradition, they started with a wreath laying ceremony at Independence Monument which was attended by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru reports.

Members of the Turkmen government, heads of ministries and organizations, big public organizations forming the nation-wide movement Galgynysh (Revival), heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan and foreign delegations, as well as the participants of the 10th jubilee conference of the World Turkmens' Humanitarian Association held in Ashgabat on the eve of celebrations laid flowers at the monument's pedestal together with the president of Turkmenistan.

Then, a military parade of representatives of all units was held on the central square of Ashgabat in front of the president's palace. Columns of military hardware passed by a stand with government members and guests. The military parade participants featured a column of officers, who were given this honor owing to their honest service, and a motor-rifle battalion that excelled at the tactical exercise Galkan-2007.

Military pilots demonstrated their skills in the skies flying supersonic fighters Su-25 and MiG-29 and helicopters Mi-24 and Mi-8.

The military parade ended with the Turkmen Armed Forces military orchestra performance.

The military parade was followed by the traditional festive procession of groups of horse riders on Akhalteke horses, youth and children's dance groups, residents of Ashgabat and all provinces of Turkmenistan, representatives of all branches of the national economy.

The Akhalteke golden stallion named Galkynysh was presented to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on behalf of the Turkmen government members.

Today, a gala concert of masters of arts of Turkmenistan dedicated to the state holiday was held at Ruhiyet Palace. Traditional colorful fireworks will be displayed in the evening.

Tomorrow, on October 28, horse races and performances of the best folk groups of Turkmenistan will be held at the state hippodrome.
