Turkmen speed skater makes successful debut at Asian Winter Games in China
Turkmenistan has successfully debuted at the 6th Asian Winter Games held under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the Chinese city of Changchun. Sportsmen from 45 countries competed in 11 events there.
As the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru reports, at the Asian Winter Games - 2007 Turkmenistan was represented by 17-year old speed skater Batyr Mamedov who finished with a time of 14.4 seconds in men's 100 m race. He was given a certificate of participation at the Asian Winter Games - 2007. The young athlete competed with sportsmen from Japan, Korean People's Democratic Republic, South Korea, China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
For the time being, the sportsman and his coach Flura Karimova are set to revert to hard trainings ahead of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver (Canada) in 2010. According to Batyr, he is also looking forward to representing Turkmenistan at the World Winter Games.
