FIRST UNIT OF CENTRAL ASIAN SUPER STUD FARM COMMISSIONED IN SOUTH OF ASHGABAT

The largest in Central Asia stud complex occupying a total area of 56 hectares was launched on Friday on the foothills of Kopetdag near Ashgabat. President of state Saparmurat Niyazov attended an inauguration ceremony. The complex was named after the head of state, RIA Novosti reported.

The $12,5 mln worth complex was ordered by the state association Turkmenatlary (Turkmen horses) and built by Turkish Polimex that has already been awarded a new contract on the construction of the complex’s second unit worth the same amount of money.

The complex is designed for 300 horses with six stables equipped with a special ventilation and anti-mosquito system. There have already been built three racecourses, stands for 5,000 people, a hippodrome for dressage, a special exercise ground and a number of backrooms. A separate block has been assigned for a jockey club.

The new farm includes genetic and veterinary laboratories that not only have surgical and examination premises but also x-ray and ultrasonic equipment. Besides, there is a special water pool for Akhal-Teke horses.

At present, Turkmenistan's elite herd of the breed alone numbers 2,000 horses with the president’s stable accounting for 200 horses.

The most famous horse of the head of state, Yanardag (Fire mountain), became a symbol of the state, his picture featuring in the center of the national emblem of Turkmenistan. The president was presented with one more horse yesterday. By the way, the last day of April is widely celebrated as Horse Day in Turkmenistan.

Today Polimex has set about building a covered riding hall, stands for sport races, comfortable hotel rooms and an administrative building.
