Presidents of Turkmenistan and Slovenia hold talks

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is in the Republic of Slovenia on an official visit, held talks with President Borut Pahor.

The two leaders discussed issues relating to partnership in the political sphere, as well as cooperation through international organizations.

The sides noted with satisfaction the similarity or identity of the positions of the two countries on the most urgent issues of international affairs and emphasized their commitment to strengthening peace, security and stability at the regional and international levels.

The leaders of Turkmenistan and Slovenia discussed in great detail the development of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. In particular, they noted that in the field of transport the two countries have opportunities for active work through the Eurasian transport and transit vector of interaction along the East-West lines with access to the Southern and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean basin, as well as the markets of the Middle East and South Asia.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov singled out the energy dialogue between Turkmenistan and Europe among the areas of strategic partnership. He noted that in this regard the Turkmen side is counting on Slovenia's active role in this process.

The sides noted the importance of humanitarian contacts in the context of international cooperation. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of development of cooperation in the field of education.  President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted the importance of giving impetus to more active partnership in the cultural sphere through exchange of festivals and days of culture.

The talks finished with the ceremony of signing bilateral documents. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Borut Pahor signed a joint statement.

The sides also signed the Agreement on cooperation in the field of transport, the Agreement on international road transport, the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of culture, the Programme of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia for 2015-2016 and the Agreement on scientific cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Academy of Sciences and Art of Slovenia.

Following the signing ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Slovenia made statements for press and answered questions from journalists.
