Turkmen capital hosts regional conference on peace and stability in Central Asia and Afghanistan

Ashgabat hosted a regional conference of experts titled “Issues of peace and stability in Central Asia and Afghanistan: a view from neutral Turkmenistan.” It was organized by the Government of Turkmenistan with the support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Liaison Office for Central Asian countries.

The conference was attended by political scientists and experts representing the leading research centers for strategic studies and diplomacy of France, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Afghanistan. The delegation of Turkmenistan included representatives of the Foreign Ministry, as well as a number of other ministries, departments and higher education establishments.

The main topic of the conference was neutral Turkmenistan’s contribution to ensuring peace and stability in the region, particularly in Afghanistan, and the role of Central Asian states in providing political and economic assistance and support to this country, as well as increasing cooperation on key regional issues.

The conference participants thanked the Government of Turkmenistan for the opportunity to bring together well-known experts and discuss important regional issues, including issues relating to technical and consultative support to Afghanistan following the completion of the International Security Assistance Force mission in this country in 2014.
