Turkmenistan’s city of Mary declared cultural capital of Turkic world for 2015

The XXXII meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY was held in the city of Kazan There were also held celebrations dedicated to the closing of the Year "Kazan - Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” declared by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) in 2014, as well as the ceremony of official handover of this status to the city of Mary - regional center of Mary province of Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Dusanbay Kaseinov and culture ministers of member countries - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.

The meeting endorsed a plan of cultural events involving art groups and delegations from the Turkic countries that will take place next year in the city of Mary. In particular, the plan provides for holding scientific meetings, concerts of popular and folk artists, exhibitions of works of fine and decorative art, photo exhibitions, theatrical performances and film screenings, workshops for writers and employees of institutions of the cultural sphere.

Traditional art activities under the auspices of TURKSOY will be also held in the city of Mary, such as open air for painters, meetings of sculptors, photographers, theater actors from TURKSOY countries, and international forum of museums and a congress of literary magazines.

The Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan was elected Interim Coordinator of TURKSOY for 2015. This period will finish with the XXXIII meeting of the International Organization of Turkic Culture in the city of Mary.
