Turkmenistan’s Consulate in Astrakhan officially opened

A Consulate of Turkmenistan was officially opened in the city of Astrakhan of the Russian Federation. A large number of dignitaries and representatives of the Turkmen diaspora of Astrakhan region attended a ceremony of hosting the national flag of Turkmenistan over the building of the diplomatic mission.

The ceremony was attended by Governor of Astrakhan region of Russia Alexander Zhylkin and Chairman of the regional Duma Alexander Klykanov and other officials.

A resolution on establishment of Turkmenistan’s consulate in Astrakhan region was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in February last year. The Consulate of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan will work to strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia and provide quality consular services to the population.

Astrakhan region of Russia and Turkmenistan share common history. Volga River delta is a place of compact residence of the big Turkmen diaspora for over three hundred years. Astrakhan is a key transport link between Russia’s south and Turkmenistan. The opening of Turkmenistan’s consulate on the southern border of the Russian Federation will serve as a powerful incentive for development of inter-regional cooperation between the Russian regions of the Caspian Sea and North Caucasus with Turkmenistan.
