First, the heads of state opened a new cement plant, which is located near the village of Garlyk, 350 kilometers from the regional center, the city of Turkmenabat.

Construction of a cement plant in Garlyk along with construction of other important facilities started in September 2009. The presidents of Turkmenistan and Ukraine attended these ceremonies. The plant has been designed and built by Turkish company “Polimeks” on the order of the Ministry of Industry of Turkmenistan. The plant will produce the most popular types of cement: heavy-duty Portland cement, oil-well cement for the oil and gas industries, as well as sulfate-resistant cement used in water treatment facilities. The design capacity of the plant is 1 million tons of cement per year.

After the opening of the cement plant, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Viktor Yanukovych flew by helicopter to the city of Atamurat, where they took part in the opening of the road bridge Atamurat-Kerkichi across the Amu Darya River. This bridge will be of great importance for social and economic development of Turkmenistan. The heads of state made welcoming speeches at the road opening ceremony.

This major investment project started in September 2009 with the participation of the presidents of Turkmenistan and Ukraine. The project has been implemented by Ukrainian company Road Construction “Altcom”. The bridge has been designed by the specialists of the Scientific Research Project Institutes “Soyuztransproekt” and “Ukrgiprobudmost” of the city of Kiev. The bridge is 1,415-meter long. The 2-lane road is 11.5-meter wide, plus sidewalks. It also has access and exit roads equipped with the lighting system. The bridge is expected to withstand earthquakes as powerful as 9 points on the Richter scale.

After the opening of the bridge in the city Atamurat, the heads of state attended the laying of a new international airport in the city of Turkmenabat, which will also be built by Ukrainian company “Altcom.” To the applause of the ceremony participants the leaders of the two countries signed a letter addressed to posterity, and placed it in a special capsule that was laid in the foundation of the airport.

The project of the future airport complex with the capacity of 500 passengers per hour has been developed by Financial and Industrial Group “Altcom” (Ukraine). This project provides for construction of modern passenger, VIP and cargo terminals, an artificial runway with the length of 3,800 meters, taxiways, parking and apron for aircrafts, an air traffic control tower, a number of other relevant facilities, including buildings of different services and so on.

Having launched the construction of the airport, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Ukraine departed by helicopter to the site of construction of a new road and rail bridge Turkmenabat - Farab across the Amu Darya River. They kicked off the construction of these important facilities.

This road bridge is 1 600-meter long, and its carriageway is 21.5-meter wide. It will be built in accordance with all the necessary engineering and technical requirements. The bridge clearance over the river will allow unhindered movement of river vessels.

The 1750-meter long railway bridge Turkmenabat-Farab will fully meet the requirements of high seismic and traffic safety. The Ukrainian experts will do a lot of complicated operations, including underwater and drilling operations, requiring high accuracy and professionalism.

Upon completion of the ceremonies of commissioning a number of important buildings and laying foundation of new industrial facilities and transport and communications infrastructure, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Viktor Yanukovych left for the residence of the head of Turkmenistan in the city of Turkmenabat.
