10,000 pistachio and almonds trees to be planted in Kopet Dagh mountains

The Inspectorate of Forestry, Seed Growing and Protection of Natural Parks of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan has prepared more than 10 thousand pistachio and almonds trees for planting in the current season. Other trees for planting include walnuts and pecans, as well as various shrubs.

The current planting activities cover the experimental plots with the total area of 300 hectares, situated at the foot of Gindivar mountain and around the Kopetdag reserve. The average age of plants ranges from 6 months to a year.

Containers with seedlings are currently being prepared at the Inspectorate’s greenhouse for future planting. The pistachio seeds come from the Badkhyz State Reserve, as well as from the nursery in Karrykule, which for a few decades has been a place of the unique experiment on growing this valuable crop in the Central Karakum desert.
