First-ever ice-hockey tournament for President's Cup held in Turkmenistan

The hockey team “Burgut” of the State Committee for Tourism and Sport of Turkmenistan went down in history as the first winner of the President’s Cup.

The prestigious prize was initially contested by four teams – “Burgut” of the State Committee for Tourism and Sport; “Oguz Khan” of the State Concern “Turkmengaz”; “Shir” of the trade and textile industry, and “Alp Arslan” of the transport and communications sector. Following a week-long round-robin tournament, two best teams - Burgut and Shir – played in the final for the grand prize. The final score was 8:2 in favor of “eagles” (Burgut).

As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the final match was attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who handed the Cup to the winner team and medals to the hockey players of three top teams. The match was also attended by the deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, leaders of the Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, the Government of Turkmenistan in full, heads of the diplomatic missions, foreign businessmen and journalists.
