On 26 January, Turkmenistan's youth national football team played its second match against Estonia in the final part of the international tournament "CIS Cup-2012”. The match was held at sport complex “St. Petersburg”. It finished with the score 0:3. It should be recalled that in the first match of the group round Turkmenistan defeated the Estonian peers (1-0).
As national team coach Ahmet Agamuradov explained after the match, failure to qualify for quarterfinals has strongly affected the morale in the team.
“Having scored four points in the group round, having played in a draw with Russia, many of our players have imagined themselves playing in quarterfinals and pinned their hopes on that. However, it happened that we had to play only for 9-12 places at the tournament, and this had distressed us greatly. The guys broke down mentally. Perhaps, it was the fault of the coaching staff that we could not set them up to continue struggling. Well, we will draw conclusions. The most important thing is that in this tournament we were able to see our players in action. Many of them played for the national team for the first time, some of them have never been to Russia,” he said.
On January 24, Turkmenistan lost 1:3 to Kyrgyzstan in the group competing for 9-12 places.
On Saturday, January 28, Turkmen footballers will play their last match at the tournament against Tajikistan.
