Turkmenistan to build alpine skiing resort

A modern skiing resort will be soon built on the high slopes of the Kopetdag mountain in Turkmenistan. Holding an international tender for construction of one more cableway in the country will be the initial step in this regard.

At a government meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Deputy Prime Minister Deryageldy Orazov to ensure that companies with extensive experience in this field should be invited to participate in the tender.

A project on construction of the cableway section leading to TV and Radio Broadcasting Center “Turkmenistan” will be developed first. A project on construction of the second phase of the cableway, connecting TV and Radio Broadcasting Center “Turkmenistan” with the foothills of the Kopetdag mountain, will be developed later.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, while building the cableway along with the cable car, there should be installed a system of engineering structures, lighting, viewing platforms, as well as restaurants. “In construction of facilities we should think not only of creating the most comfortable conditions for favorable vacation of people but also of high quality services,” the president said.

“Visitors should have access for a pleasant pastime, enjoying the beautiful scenery from any favorite place, be it the TV and Radio Broadcasting Center or higher places in the mountains,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. He demanded that a special downhill skiing slope should be built along with the cableway.

“It will not be very difficult to lay special skiing trails with artificial snow cover. We also have cold winters, when snow does not melt for the whole year in these places, creating opportunities and conditions for full-time skiing activities,” he said.
