TV channel “Sport” to start round-the-clock broadcasting from January 1

TV channel “Sport” will start round-the-clock broadcasting in Turkmenistan from January 1, 2012. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a corresponding resolution at a government meeting “with the view to promoting healthy lifestyles in the country, increasing the youth’s interest in sports and taking the Turkmen sport to the international level.”

As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the head of state stressed the importance of broadcasting regular TV programmes as part of the new sports channel to draw the general population into sport and recreation movement and to promote national sports.

At present, Turkmen television runs five channels: official channel “Altyn Asyr” (Golden Age), educational channel “Miras” (Generation"), youth channel “Yashlyk” (Youth), international channel “Turkmenistan” broadcasting news in five languages, as well as music channel “Turkmen Ovazy” (Turkmen melodies). It is expected that channel “Ashgabat” will be launched soon.
