World largest carpet made in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan’s female carpet-makers wove a giant carpet, the largest in the country’s carpet weaving history, in honor of the 20th anniversary of independence. The new 378 square meter giant carpet has been made in a record time - four months – by the carpet weaving factory of the town of Serdar.

As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the carpet creators have been awarded valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan.

It should be recalled that the giant carpet “Altyn Asyr”, the world's largest handmade carpet occupying an area of 301 square meters, hit the Guinness Book of Records in 2003. It was made by the 10th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.

Prior to that, the palm belonged to the 193 square meter carpet called “Turkmen Kalby” (the Soul of Turkmens) made in the years of the Great Patriotic War.
