Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan Andrey Krutko comments on bilateral relations
Local mass media published an article by the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan, Andrey Krutko, containing, in particular, his evaluation of the present state of bilateral relations. The following is an excerpt from his article.
"It is with satisfaction that we note today a considerable contribution by independent, neutral Turkmenistan to the international cooperation, both Turkmenistan's own contribution and within the collective efforts in various directions - from the fight against terror to the development of world trade-economic ties.
Russia values your beautiful country as an important political and economic partner, a reliable guarantor of regional and international stability. Since the beginning of interstate relations in early 90s of the XX century, a mutually beneficial cooperation between sovereign Russia and Turkmenistan has been developed on the principles of fraternal friendship, equality and good neighborliness. They are being built on the mutually beneficial basis and projected into the future. They are in tune with strategic interests of our states and peoples.
A meeting between the Russian and Turkmen presidents in Moscow on May 8-9 during celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory gave a new impetus to the fruitful cooperation. A constructive and truly friendly meeting between V.V.Putin and S.A.Niyazov on the Red Square has again demonstrated trustworthiness and frankness of the two leaders' personal relations. The Turkmen president's appreciation of his brief but full of important events and decisions visit to the Russian capital is graphic evidence of this.
The economic component of our cooperation cannot but make us happy. We have achieved a stable growth of commodity turnover between our states. It exceeded US $749,5 mln in 2004, up US $ 210,6 mln on 2003. In the first quarter of 2005 alone, the commodity turnover stood at US $ 135,2 mln.
Our relations in the oil and gas sphere are being successfully developed. Exports of Turkmen oil and gas sector's products to Russia totaled US $ 7,7 mln in the first quarter of 2005. Apart from Gasprom, a long standing partner in the Turkmen oil and gas market, Russian oil company LUKoil is preparing to get actively involved in realization of energy projects in Turkmenistan. Working meetings between Turkmen president Saparmurat Niyazov and head of LUKoil V.Alekperov took place on May 8 in Moscow and June 6 in Ashgabat. They discussed prospects of mutually beneficial partnership in this field.
The Russian-Turkmen humanitarian cooperation keeps gaining in momentum. The Russian-Turkmen secondary school named after A.S.Pushkin is successfully working. The school has recently taken the first place at a special contest called "Best Russian-language schools from foreign countries" held in Moscow.
In the autumn of 2004, the company of the State Drama Theater named after A.S.Pushkin visited Moscow to participate in the acting technique improvement courses with the support of the Russian Theater Artists Union, Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan and Ministry of culture and TV and Radio broadcast of Turkmenistan.
In April-May this year, the producer of the State Academic Maliy Theater, Vladislav Konstantinov, worked with the theater's company. He staged "Widow's boat" play on the basis of a story with the same name by Irina Grekova. The theater's company dedicated their work to the 60th anniversary of V-Day.
The theater plans to participate in the festival of Russian theaters from CIS and Baltic countries in Moscow in the second half of 2005.
The company of the Turkmen State Academic Drama Theater named after Mollanepes participated in the 7th International Festival of Theaters of the Turkic Peoples "Nauruz" in Kazan from May 30 to June 5. The theater's artists performed "Nedjep Oglan" play within the framework of the festival dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the Tatar capital foundation. This is only part of examples of successful progressive development of our multifaceted cooperation which has an unshakable basis - the fraternal, sincere friendship between the peoples of Russia and Turkmenistan and relations of deep respect and trustworthy partnership between V.V.Putin and S.A.Niazov.
Taking this opportunity, I want to wish the friendly Turkmen people happiness, well being and prosperity and express confidence that relations of friendship and close, multifaceted cooperation existing between Russia and Turkmenistan will be further actively developed for the good of the peoples of our countries," the article by Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan Andrey Krutko reads.
