UKRAINE IS READY TO INCREASE IMPORT OF TURKMEN NATURAL GAS
Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrayiny is ready to increase imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan, said the company's First Deputy CEO Vadim Chuprun at the 9th international conference "Oil and gas of Turkmenistan - 2004".
According to Chuprun, the company has already begun preparatory work to increase input capacity of Ukraine's gas transportation system from Turkmenistan, Novosti-Ukraina reports referring to the press-center of Naftogaz Ukrayiny.
"The construction of the new gas pipeline Novopskov-Uzhgorod under the International Gas Transportation Consortium will significantly increase Ukraine's capacity to import and transit Turkmen natural gas," he said.
Apart from that, Naftogaz Ukrayiny deputy CEO reported that "Ukraine is ready to support any project proposed by the Turkmen side regarding the development of the gas transportation system Central Asia - Center (CAC) or to set up new routes to deliver Turkmen gas to Ukraine. He reminded the conference that the CAC was designed in due time by the Kiyev institute "VNIPITransgas", which has information on preparing the project's rehabilitation and development.
According to Chuprun, "Ukraine sees itself as a leading consumer of Turkmen gas in the future." Naftogaz Ukrayiny has already signed a 25-year agreement with RosUkrEnergo AG company, providing for raising natural gas imports from current 34 to 60 bln cub.m. per year in the period from 2007 to 2028," he noted.
The company's representative also reported that "Ukraine will continue supporting the development of the gas transportation system of Turkmenistan" and confirmed Ukraine's interest in implementing the projects that involve carrying out geological and exploratory work and development of fields in the territory of Turkmenistan.
"Ukrainian contractors have done a lot of work on designing, building and upgrading gas sector facilities over the past several years, including the Gazanzhik-Serdar gas pipeline, the Kotur-Tepe, Kaakhka and Daryalyk compressor stations, the Serdar gas-lifting station, the pipeline crossing over the Amudaria river and other installations," he noted.
