The unique complex of medical establishments in the south of Ashgabat will be complemented with new facilities in 2007
Turkmenistan has recently built a whole number of medical establishments fitted with state-of-the-art equipment which offer a variety of services to the population. Turkmenistan has spent hundreds of millions of US dollars for the construction and equipment of these facilities. The government of Turkmenistan is set to continue the active expansion of technical and scientific basis of the country's health care system in 2007.
In the near future, mother and child health centers, like the one in Ashgabat, will be built in each province of Turkmenistan. It should be noted that "Ene Myahri" health center in Ashgabat commissioned in December 2005 was awarded international certificate "Mother and child friendly hospital" last September. This status was also confirmed by experts of the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
It is planned to build the Oncological center in the south of the capital, near the Mother and Child Health Center and the Ministry of Healthcare of Turkmenistan, in 2007. A 12-storey building with the capacity of 150 people will be erected in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization. The ground and first floors will accommodate the diagnosis and outpatients department as well as intensive care, reanimation and operating department. The medical and scientific archive of the clinic, library, laboratory, drug store and blood bank department will be located on the third and fourth floors. The hospital and children's department, departments of thoracic, general and gynecological oncology, departments of head tumor and neck oncology, haematology, chemotherapy and radiotherapy will occupy the 5-11th floors.
The large-scale complex of medical establishments will be also complemented with the Center of head and neck diseases which would accommodate under one roof the departments of neurosurgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and stomatology as well as the hospital for 50 patients.
The new centers projects provide for a fully automatic and electric support for their functioning systems. A separate transforming station, boiler house with natural gas heating and water reservoirs will be build close to the facilities. Parking spaces for patients and staff will be also provided.
The construction will be carried out in close cooperation with the long-standing partners of Turkmen doctors, Turkish companies who have good track record of work in the Turkmen market. Famous European companies, world leading producers of medical equipment, will be dealing with supplying equipment to the new centers. Practically all Turkmenistan's medical centers and clinics use state-of-the-art equipment supplied by these companies.
The first in the line is the long standing partner of Turkmenistan, Siemens company, producing unique equipment which is also being used by the best US and German medical centers. By the way, during the first president of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov's meeting with Siemen's representatives in September 2006, Siemens CEO Heinrich von Pierer noted that today "Turkmenistan made a great progress in medicine, not least owing to state-of-the-art equipment."
It was this German company who also equipped modern diagnostic centers in the towns of Balkanabat and Turkmenabat. The standard model 6-storey buildings worth US $ 21.3 million were commissioned simultaneously with Ashgabat's Ene Myahri center. Balkanabat and Turkmenabat doctors had got latest equipment - computerized tomographic systems, radiography and mammography, devices, electrocardioscopes, ultra sound for high-accuracy brain checkup, respiratory apparatus, cardiovascular system, osteoarticular system, gastrointestinal tract and so on.
If we continue carrying on with the topic of technical modernization of Turkmenistan's healthcare system, it is worth recalling the delivery in Turkmenistan of 50 Mersedes-Bens Sprinter ambulances for emergency departments in July 2006. New cars are fitted with the double side ventilation system, moon roof for fresh air circulation as well as first aid equipment - reanimation case, oxygen bomb, bandages. As of today, all healthcare services, including regional and district hospitals and health centers, along with emergency departments are equipped with latest models of ambulances.
Among other things, the government plans for development of the healthcare system in 2007 also include the construction of a new medical institute for 3000 students. At present, the construction of a 12-storey apartment house nears completion in Ashgabat. The house for Turkmen doctors will be commissioned on the eve of State Flag Day, and a school for 600 pupils ordered by the Ministry of healthcare and pharmaceutical industry of Turkmenistan will be opened in September.
