The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has issued a statement for mass media. It says that "slanderous statements and reports about the so-called military coup in Turkmenistan and on the illegitimate transference of power in the country, contributed by the so-called "political experts", have appeared in the Russian media. .
These insinuations are in fact aimed at drawing a false picture for the world community on the true situation and events in Turkmenistan.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan is authorized to state that all of the above-mentioned reports do not absolutely correspond to reality and pursue clearly provocative goals.
As is known, candidates for the presidency were nominated and approved in line with the national constitution and Turkmen legislation and following democratic procedures at the 18th extraordinary session of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan on 26 December 2006. This event was open for all and broadcast live by the TV in the presence of heads of diplomatic missions and representative offices of the international organizations accredited in Ashgabat.
The situation all over Turkmenistan is calm and stable. Facilities and organizations are functioning normally and the people are provided with food products, medicines and other necessary services. Wages, pensions and allowances are being paid in time, and social services are being provided properly.
Turkmenistan is a rich and stable country and has scored big achievements in the years of its independence, and political, economic and food security has been ensured in the country.
In this connection we state that all kinds of provocations, regardless who are behind them, cannot divert us from the firm path of development and democratization process drawn up by President Saparmurat Turkmenbashi.
