Chairing an expanded session of the cabinet of ministers yesterday, Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov
sharply criticized heads of local structures of executive power and agricultural sector for unsatisfactory situation with cotton harvest.
As the State news service (TDH) reports, the Turkmen leader said that lack of responsibility of regional officials, their incompetence to properly manage the harvest, their unwillingness to work in a new fashion taking into consideration the realities of present time were the main factors of bad situation on the cotton fields. "As a result, the rate of cotton gathering keeps going down to some 300 tons a day, which is far from the set target," Saparmurat Niyazov
The head of state also drew attention to inadmissibility of such violations as using state workers and soldiers for field works. Besides, Turkmenistan has adopted a law prohibiting the use of child labor. Those who violate it will be severely punished, the president said. Saparmurat Niyazov

During the harvest campaign serious violations were committed by Daikhanbank, which was entrusted with an important mission of implementing the state financial policy in agriculture, the head of state said.

As a result, there is direct violation of agro-technical standards as, for example, timely discontinuation of irrigation of cotton fields which also serves as impediment to harvest campaign.
