Today, Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov attended an inauguration ceremony of a new facility, a gas compressor station at Korpeje field, in the Gogerendag Ekerem oil-and-gas bearing region, within the framework of his working visit to Balkan province.
As the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru recalls, commercial production of Korpeje oil reserves began in the summer of 1995. The significance of the field increased dramatically after the commissioning of the Turkmen-Iranian Korpeje-Kurt Kui gas pipeline. Iranian National Oil Engineering Construction Company acted as the general contractor of the US $ 195 mln project. The pipeline is 200 km long, of which 135 km run through the western region of Turkmenistan. The pipeline's projected capacity is 8 bln cub meters a year that can be increased to 13 bcm. A purchase and sale contract signed by Turkmenistan and Iran in 1995 provides for natural gas supplies to the northern provinces of the neighboring state for 25 years. The pipeline was launched in December 29, 1997, with participation of the heads of two states. At present, Korpeje's performance stock amounts to 100 gas and oil fields.
Today, the stock of facilities of the field's production infrastructure was complemented with one more modern industrial complex designed for pumping natural gas into the interstate main Turkmenistan-Iran. This large investment project worth some 114 mln euro was implemented by Turkmenneft state concern jointly with German Man Ferrostal Industrianlangen GmbX and its prime subcontractor, Iranian National Oil Engineering and Construction Company. Fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, the complex meets the highest international standards and, apart from the gas compressor station, includes gas purification, dehydration and cooling units operating on the basis of latest technologies, a control panel of automatic management, a gas turbine power station with the capacity of 8 mW/h, a water desalter unit with reservoirs, an administrative-social building and other facilities.
The capacity of the station is 4 bln of gas per year. Apart from natural gas, the station will utilize associated oil gas. The commissioning of the new gas compressor station will make it possible to use the country's export potential in this field to a greater extent and significantly increase volumes and enhance reliability of gas flow into the Turkmen-Iranian gas pipeline Korpeje - Kurt Kui.
