Russia is interested in increasing the imports of Turkmen goods and products to the Russian market, said President Dmitry Medvedev during the talks with his Turkmen counterpart in the town of Turkmenbashi on 22 October. In this regard, the President of the Russian Federation called for the development of Turkmen-Russian cooperation in agriculture.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also called for further strengthening the Turkmen-Russian economic relations. He pointed out that there are all necessary prerequisites, i.e. the growing needs of the Turkmen economy, which is being developed with participation of Russian companies, and, in turn, the increased demand for Turkmenistan's goods in Russia. "The trading houses in Ashgabat and Moscow serve the intensification of trade and economic cooperation, and this positive experience should be expanded," he said.
Reflecting on this topic, the Turkmen leader noted the need to establish trade and transport infrastructure in the towns of Turkmenbashi and Astrakhan, which could include major wholesale trade enterprises with significant spaces for storage and transshipment of goods for further transportation by road, rail, air and sea to Turkmenistan and Russia.
