Turkmenistan is ready to increase exports of its natural gas to Russia, said President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, who arrived in the country on a working visit.
"Russia and Turkmenistan have mutual interest in partnership development. We are strategic partners, and our relationship is noted for stability and mutual understanding on fundamental issues," he stressed.
According to the data cited by the head of state, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia amounted to US $ 1, 857 billion over 8 months of this year. This is surely less in comparison with 2009 due to the shrinkage in natural gas supplies to Russia," he said. At the same time, according to the Turkmen leader, the countries take "practical steps to diversify trade turnover."
As part of the talks, Dmitry Medvedev also stressed that energy remains a key component of cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan. "We will continue developing promising areas of this cooperation in the field of energy," he said. According to the Russian president, the friendly Turkmen-Russian relations as a whole "have the solid legal basis and good momentum."
