Over one million tons of cotton has been harvested in Turkmenistan in the 2010 cotton harvest campaign. This was announced by the state news agency TDH on October 17. A number of farmer unions have by now fulfilled their contractual obligations. They are continuing the cotton harvest. In total, farmers are expected to harvest 1 million 50 thousand tons of cotton.
According to the TDH, cotton growers managed to take full advantage of all the pros of the optimal weather conditions for cultivation of cotton in the 2010 season. They managed to do well without spring replanting, while high summer temperatures contributed to the good crops. A number of other factors made it possible to start harvesting a week earlier, and this year's sunny autumn also favors the good pace of harvesting.
It should be recalled that at a recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the government to effectively use the record growth in cotton prices at the global market, and to take all necessary measures to ensure profitable sales of the excessive amount of cotton.
Procurement company "Ak Altyn", which is entrusted with sales of Turkmen cotton at the international market, has been already actively working with potential buyers, taking advantage of the most successful market conditions when the price of cotton is the highest.
