The law "On Drinking Water" took effect in Turkmenistan today. The law provides for requirements for monitoring drinking water quality and water safety for human health, establishes the legal, economic and organizational basis for the efficient use of water supply systems.
As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the first-of-its-kind law guarantees the supply of drinking water to every person in the territory of Turkmenistan in accordance with the established standards of quality, in quantities meeting the norms of drinking water consumption.
Under the document, water will be supplied to the public free of charge, at the expense of the State budget, within a certain limit. This limit is set by a separate resolution of the President of Turkmenistan. The tariff for drinking water consumed by the population over the established limit of free water use and for non-potable purposes is determined by the Cabinet of Ministers. The derivation of water to the sewer system is free of charge.
