The presentation of the collection of poetry by the classic of Turkmen literature, Makhtumkuli, translated into Ukrainian language, was held within the framework of the V International Book Fair in Ashgabat, UkrInform reports citing the press service of Ukraine's State Committee for Broadcasting. The book was published by the publishing center "Prosvita". The author of translations is the winner of the National Taras Shevchenko Prize, Pavlo Movchan.
The presentation was attended by Turkmen writers and Ukrainian publishers. The event was also attended by Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkmenistan Valentin Chevalev. On behalf of the Ukrainian state he thanked the hosts of the exhibition for holding a high level international event as well as for the warm welcome to Ukrainian publishers. "We see a great interest among visitors to books and the Ukrainian book in particular, he said. People get to know each other through a book, and it is good that we get to know each other through the poetry of Makhtumkuli and Taras Shevchenko."
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, director of publishing and media department of the State Committee for Broadcasting, Valentina Babilyulko, told the hosts of the exhibitions how Ukraine cherishes the memory of the great Turkmen poet. She stressed that one of Kiev's libraries was named after Makhtumkuli, and a monument to the great Turkmen poet was erected in the center of the Ukrainian capital. Members of the Ukrainian delegation presented the book "Makhtumkuli" in Ukrainian, as well as an artistic photo of the monument to Makhtumkuli to vice-premier of Turkmenistan Maysa Yazmuhamedova.
