Turkmen President says development of transport sector in Central Asia is priority
Turkmenistan invited the United Nations to think of the prospects of development of transport and communication infrastructure in Central Asia and the Caspian basin.

According to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who made a statement at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, creating a modern, developed infrastructure of rail and road transport, and communications network can give a powerful impetus to the successful integration of the countries in the region in the processes of global economic development.

"This will ensure the inflow of investments and create conditions for effective cooperation in the context of intercontinental economic realities in the Eurasian space in the North-South and East-West directions," the Turkmen leader said.

"We believe it is neccessary to engage specialized UN agencies, primarily the European Economic Commission and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, in this work," he said.
