Turkmenistan stands for "reasonable reform" of UN
The UN has been the foundation of the modern world, attracting pole of hopes and aspirations of the humankind, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with the Turkmen media before leaving for New York to attend the 65th session of the UN General Assembly.

According to him, in the modern world the United Nations must become a mainstay in the creative work of the states as well as in building a fair and balanced system of international relations.

"We understand that a number of aspects of the UN work need improvement and more efficiency in accordance with the requirements of the day. This is a normal and natural process corresponding to the logic of today's dynamic development of the world. That is why we stand for a reasonable reform of the UN in the direction of further strengthening and steady consolidation of its positions in the international system of coordinates, the expansion of the role and functions of the UN as a guarantor of global peace, stability and development," the President stressed.

The Turkmen leader expressed confidence that the UN reform should be "meaningful, targeted, correlated with the actual needs of the international community." Turkmenistan shares the view of the need to further improve the structure of the Security Council, establishing closer and effective cooperation between the Security Council and General Assembly," he said.
