Despite the expected benefits that the transnational gas pipeline TAPI would bring for Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, the economic aspect of the project has a "secondary role". This confidence was expressed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a press conference following the 10th summit of Turkic-speaking countries, answering a question on this project given the tense situation in Afghanistan.
"We believe that it is the process of implementation of the TAPI project that will provide one of the solid foundations for political stability in Afghanistan. For the people of Afghanistan the project became an unprecedented programme to build a number of high-tech facilities promoting the construction of this grand energy bridge. The construction of these facilities should be carried out and maintained by the sufficient number of labor force. All the countries participating in the project believe that TAPI will bring peace and stability to the Afghan soil," the Turkmen leader said.
