On September 14, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a government meeting which discussed the development of Turkmenistan's historical science.

According to TDH news agency, the head of state instructed scientists, cultural figures and education workers to pay more attention to the study of ancient, medieval, and modern history of Turkmenistan.

"It's time to once again thoroughly revise out past and, on the basis of available historical and archaeological data and conclusive evidence of the past of Turkmens, raise to a new level the work of the institutes of history, archaeology and other cultural and educational institutions created at the Turkmen Academy of Sciences," he said.

"We need to improve textbooks on the history of Turkmenistan that would scientifically substantiate a theory of the origin of the Turkmen people and set out the historical phases in an orderly manner, starting from the birth of the nation and to this day," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
