Today, Turkmenistan celebrates one of the most important and revered Muslim holiday - Oraza Bayramy, which is the second great Muslim holiday after Kurban Bayramy, marking the end of fasting during the holy month of Oraza (Ramadan).
Oraza Bayramy - Eid ul-Fitr, lasts for about 3 days. On Oraza Bayramy, people usually sew or buy new clothes and shoes, visit each other's families and present gifts, hand out sweets in the streets, wishing everyone happiness, health and peace. On this day, people forgive wrongdoings to each other, forget quarrels. Forgiveness of small debts is especially encouraged.
On the 27th day of the month of Oraza comes the Night of Omnipotence - Gadyr Gijesi. It is believed that this night the true believers with honest thoughts can see the Prophet Hydyr, who helps people. This year, Gadyr Gijesi fell on the night of 5 to 6 September. By established tradition, on the eve of the Night of Omnipotence, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree pardoning 3 thousand 999 persons sentenced to imprisonment, including foreign nationals who committed crimes in Turkmenistan.
