An official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Tajikistan begins today. This is the second visit to a neighboring country in recent years.
As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the upcoming talks between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmov will become another milestone in further strengthening the international legal framework for bilateral cooperation, which will make it possible to rapidly develop the existing inter-state relations and identify new directions of the Turkmen-Tajik cooperation.
During the visit, the Turkmen leader will also meet with the speaker of the lower chamber of the Tajik Parliament, and speak to the students of the Dushanbe Medical University.
Dushanbe attaches great importance to the first official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that aims at boosting bilateral cooperation, especially in energy and transportation sectors, said the head of the Tajik MFA information department, Dawlat Nazriev, on the eve of the visit. According to him, the sides are expected to sign a joint declaration and seven bilateral documents following the talks. Trade turnover between the two countries amounted to approximately US $ 64 million in 2009, and only US $ 9.1 million in the last two months, which, according to Davlat Nazrieva, "in no way corresponds to the existing potential of our countries."
