According to the Riga Latvian Society, a memorial plate will be installed in the Turkmen city of Turkmenbashi in honor of the first Latvian President Karlis Ulmanis.
According to the head of the National Cultural Development Fund and the Riga Latvian Society, Mirdza Stirnu, Latvian President Valdis Zatlers met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his visit to Turkmenistan and agreed to install a commemorative plate in Turkmenbashi, the city where the last records of Ulmanis interrogation by KGB staff were made.
At present, the Riga Latvian Society is raising donations for installation of the plate in Turkmenistan, the report reads.
