The results of Turkmenistan's socio-economic development in the last five months were summed up at an expanded government meeting in Ashgabat on June 13.
Chairman of the State Statistics Committee Kakamurat Mommadov reported that Turkmenistan produced goods worth Manat 74,9 trillion in January-May, up 20,8% year-on-year. The GDP growth rates in comparative prices totaled 106,5%. The total amount of GDP in real prices reached Manat 41 trillion.
High growth rates are also reported in industry. Production of cement grew to 139,2%, electricity - 113,3%, lint cotton - 115,5%, macaroni - 139,4%, processed and canned fish products - 113,5%. At the same time, production of fertilizers shrank by 14,4%, iodine - by 10,7%, natural gas - by 7,4%, cereals - by 40% year-on-year.
As of June 1, 2008, the stock of cattle of all farms of Turkmenistan reached 2,92,2 million, of sheep - 19,224 million, of poultry - 16,52,8 million. The live weight of meat produced in all farms of Turkmenistan amounted to 177,1 thousand tons, milk - 566,3 thousand tons, eggs - 295,1 million.
According to K.Mommadov, investments in Turkmenistan's economy totaled Manat 9,99,3 billion in the first four months of 2008, up 60,6% year-on-year.
The total turnover of goods by all means of transportation reached Manat 21,328,7 billion ton-kilometer in five months of 2008.
Turkmenistan's trade turnover in January-April 2008 equaled US $ 5,549,7 million, up 32,2% year-on-year. Turkmenistan exported goods worth US $ 3,891,1 billion, a 37% increase on the last year. Imports grew by 22,1% to 1,658,6 billion year-on-year. Trade surplus rose by 50,6% to US $ 2,232,5 billion year-on-year.
