The state national service Turkmenhowayollary (Turkmen Airways) is to sign a Euro 125 million contract with Turkish company Polimeks on the project development and construction of an airport in the town of Turkmenbashi. The Turkish company will also reconstruct the existing airport terminal, construct an aircraft parking lot and a 3,500-m long runway and a centralized aircraft fuel station. The construction should commence in February 2008 and be commissioned in October 2009.
As the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru reports, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree to this effect. According to the press service of the Turkmen president, the decree was adopted "with a view to implementing specific tasks on ensuring uninterrupted shipments for the construction of sites on the territory of the tourist zone Avaza and their maintenance, delivery of specialists, workers and tourists."
