Turkish President
Abdullah Gul begins his official visit to Ashgabat today. As the Turkmenistan.ru's correspondent reports quoting official information, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and
Abdullah Gul are expected to "discuss a broad range of issues, to define new priorities of the long-term partnership based on trust, equality and respect of each other's interests."
Turkmenistan and Turkey signed 85 official bilateral documents. Under these documents, the two states opened their embassies and consulates, set up regular air communication, implement joint projects, open subsidiary companies, branches and representations of the Turkish companies in Turkmenistan.
Turkey holds a stable 4th place in Turkmenistan's exports and 1st place in Turkmenistan's imports. Trade turnover between the two states exceeded US $ 1.1 billion in the first ten months of 2007. 428 enterprises with Turkish capital were registered in Turkmenistan. This is 33% of all foreign companies registered in Turkmenistan.
Currently around 700 Turkmen students are studying in the higher educational institutions in Turkey.
