Two transcontinental rallies cross in Ashgabat
As the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru reports, the Turkmen capital has become a crossing point of two international transcontinental motor-rallies – London – Mongolia and Paris Beijing, yesterday.

London-Mongolia 2007 motor-rally was the first to arrive in Turkmenistan. Its participants came to Turkmenbashi port on a ferry from Azerbaijan in the morning. By noon, the drivers from Europe, USA, Latin America and Australia successfully reached Ashgabat. The rally’s route as lon as 20,000 km runs through territory of 15 countries. 200 fans of motor tourism travel in groups by Nissan, Suzuki, Fiat, Ford and Volkswagen midget cars and motorcycles. They departed from London, July 21 and will finish in Ulan bator August 19.

On the second half of the day, participants of the traditional Paris-Beijing rally passed through Southern gates of Ashgabat. 125 drivers on 75 cars, trucks and motorcycles are traveling tourists sponsored by French Citroen Company.

Today participants of both rallies will stop in Mary and visit places of interest in Mary city and “Ancient Merv” Historical and Archeological Museum. The will leave Turkmenistan August 9.
